For generations societies worldwide have initiated their young. In the journey through life, times of significant transition come when the roles and responsibilities we are called to live in are changed irrevocably. The most fundamental of these transitions is when one stops being a child and crosses over into adulthood. Communities had rites and ceremonies to mark this passage, to teach values and roles expected in the new status, and to affirm the initiates’ place in the community into a new role.
Modern society lacks this structure and that human need for initiation and affirmation is rarely met. Little wonder then that many young people do destructive things to prove that they are men and women. Little wonder that many ‘adults’ carry on with unresolved childish ways way into their adulthood and even pass them on to the next generation. The ROPES program (Rites of Passage ExperienceS) seeks to meet this need by offering Christ centered rites within various community settings whether it be a church, school, or children’s center.
This program focuses on children going through the transition into adolescence. Moving from childhood to teenagehood. These predominantly would be finishing up with the equivalent of primary school and moving on to Highschool as well as significant physical and emotional changes. The parent Child dynamic is changing and peer influence is kicking in.-it is a major transition time for both them and their Parents.
The program includes a workbook for guided conversation with parents, mentors and peers over their weekly sessions and culminates in an intense 5 day residential camp here at Musana Camps.
This is the main ROPEs program tailored from those transitioning to adulthood. Targeting those finishing up the equivalent of High school and moving to University and transitioning to independence. Candidates attend classes [preferably once a week] where they are taken through indepth discussion on chosen topics and facilitators lay clear goals. The candidates have follow up conversations with their Parent on the Topic. Parental involvement is crucial and is the glue that makes the whole program stick together as a powerful and impactful time. It culminates with the candidates going off for a week long boot camp of gruelling and practical session. The parent will join them for the last day to commission and welcome them to Adulthood.
We appreciate that most of us parents are learning on the job. Once you have a child signed up for the ROPEs program, sessions are held once a month with the Parents of the candidate to help guide, provide resources and share updates. These include practical workshops for you to prepare you to launch your child, learn about transitioning from parenting to coaching, Individuality/personality and leaving a legacy. This allows the parents and facilitators to be on the same page while allowing room for individual parenting styles.
Sample Topics: Worldview, Relationships, Leadership, Finances, Spiritual disciplines, Biblical manhood and womanhood, Sex and sexuality, Authority, Responsibility, Community engagement, Legacy, etc
TCK is an acronym for “Third Culture Kids,” a term used to describe young people living in a culture that is not their own. This very special category of youth are living through unique experience in addition to the typical adolescent challenges.
TCK CAMP is a Summer camp for these amazing individuals aged 12-18. Typically targeting Missionary Kids, Expatriate kids, Cross Cultural Kids and Kids adopted into another Culture; TCK camp is a place to meet new friends, participate in team events, bond and most importantly be challenged by the Word of God.
Musana Youth camps are designed to help young people experience and grow in their faith in three areas.
WONDER. DISCOVERY. PASSION.
These three things affect everything we do. They pull at our hearts, drive our behavior and capture our imagination. Camp Musana moves students beyond information about God to an actual experience with God. Tackling everything from Gods design, our unique identity in Christ and avenues to personally connect with the Father through prayer, fellowship, worship and nature. Nurturing and growing gifts and talents both spiritual and physical is a key aspect of these camps.
